CISA adds T-Mobile, SentinelOne, NTT to JCDC initiative; boosting US, international cybersecurity capabilities

The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) announced Thursday the addition of T-Mobile, SentinelOne, and NTT to its Joint Cyber Defense Collaborative (JCDC) initiative. The move brings together cyber defenders to generate and share actionable data that can help with effective cybersecurity, pooling resources to analyze, assess and monitor the relevant information so as to create an integrated strategy for prevention, defense, and response against cyber threats.

Set up in August 2021, JCDC is a collaborative effort between various cybersecurity entities, owners of critical infrastructure and government departments. These include the U.S. Cyber Command, the National Security Agency (NSA), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), U.S. Secret Service, and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

SentinelOne said that the initiative will tap threat intelligence of SentinelLabs and insights from SentinelOne’s Singularity XDR Platform. SentinelOne has entered into a collaboration with the JCDC to provide the latter with insights and assistance in planning and advice. The alliance will grant JCDC ‘unparalleled visibility into emerging threats’ and help them guard against potential cyberattacks before they happen.

“JCDC goes beyond other public-private partnerships, delivering collaborative engagement between the nation’s top cyber minds with a focus on planning, action, and mitigation,” Jared Phipps, SVP, Americas Sales and Solution Engineering, said in a media statement. “With exceptional speed, scale and intelligence, our team and technology will play a crucial role in the organization’s continued success. We have partnered closely with CISA for years and look forward to continuing that relationship, helping protect the world’s most critical assets and information.”

The alliance between NTT and JCDC provides the Japanese company with an opportunity to harness its collective global expertise and resources, to better help protect critical information networks and enable the member organizations to respond to cyber incidents. Likewise, NTT will benefit from information received from other JCDC members.

“Based on our existing collaborative and trusted relationship with CISA and the U.S. government, we are honored to join the JCDC bringing a unique perspective from Asia and sharing NTT’s global experience and deep expertise in leadership and security,” Akira Shimada, NTT’s president and CEO, said in a statement. “While the global cybersecurity environment will remain uncertain for the foreseeable future, collaboration among cybersecurity industry leaders and government leaders is needed not only in the U.S. but also internationally to protect against cyberattacks that threaten the critical infrastructure systems upon which our daily lives depend.”

Last April, the JCDC expanded its program by roping in critical ICS industry expertise. Initial companies that joined the JCDC-ICS effort include Bechtel, Claroty, Dragos, GE, Honeywell, Nozomi Networks, Schneider Electric, Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Siemens, and Xylem, as well as several JCDC alliance partners.
