Critical infrastructure

Critical infrastructure involves those absolutely essential services that lie at the core of our society. They typically cover the network of highways, surface transportation systems, electric grids, oil and natural gas installations, railways, chemicals, communications, utilities, buildings, and the water and wastewater space.

The assets, systems, and networks within the critical infrastructure sector are considered so vital that their incapacitation or destruction would harm security, national economic security, national public health, and or safety, or any combination thereof. Increased connectivity and digitization of the connected interface have exposed these critical infrastructure sectors to nefarious elements of cyberspace, including criminal and state actors. Therefore, it is vital to reduce vulnerabilities at critical infrastructure installations and boost their resilience, especially against cybersecurity attacks and threats.
