Airbus to acquire German company INFODAS, strengthen its cybersecurity portfolio

Airbus Defence and Space has agreed to acquire INFODAS, a Cologne-based, German company that provides cybersecurity and IT  solutions in the public sector, including for defense and critical infrastructures.

The transaction is subject to customary regulatory approvals and is expected to be finalized before the end of 2024.

The acquisition supports Airbus’ ambition to strengthen its cybersecurity portfolio for the benefit of its European and global customers. With exponential cyber threats, along with the increasing digitalization and connectivity of its products and systems, cybersecurity is a pivotal component of Airbus’ development.

Over the last few years, the group has continuously developed its cybersecurity capabilities and expertise, ensuring the best possible protection for its products, operations, customers, and ecosystem, including major programs such as the Future Combat Air System (FCAS).

INFODAS is a company with around 250 employees and annual revenues of about 50 million euros. Besides its headquarters in Cologne, INFODAS has additional offices in Germany in  Berlin, Bonn, Hamburg, Munich, and Mainz. The company has been certified by the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) as an IT security service provider in the areas of information system auditing, consulting, and penetration tests.

The INFODAS’ SDoT Security Gateway product family is approved for classification levels up to secret. The products are also certified in accordance with Common Criteria and have other country-specific certificates.

In June 2022, Airbus announced its strategic initiative to enhance and expand its cybersecurity efforts across the organization. In response to the escalating cyber threats and the growing digitalization and connectivity of its products and systems, cybersecurity has emerged as a critical and strategic priority for Airbus’ ongoing development and future success. The company has embarked on a series of initiatives and investments to advance and fortify its cybersecurity capabilities and expertise, ensuring robust protection for the company, its ecosystem, and its customers.

As part of this commitment, Airbus has opted to consolidate its diverse cybersecurity services into a unified organization, set to launch in July 2022. The new entity, dedicated to cybersecurity and safety services with a focus on the industrial sector, will unite over 1,000 experts from France, Germany, the UK, and Spain. It aims to deliver a comprehensive global service portfolio to safeguard the group and cater to the requirements of national authorities and commercial clients, including critical infrastructures.
